It is very rare that I try new things when it comes to the food I eat and I will check for reviews before eating, but this time, for no reason at all, I didn’t even bother checking reviews. Semi skeptical of trying it out, but hey, you can’t go wrong with noodles, right? RIGHT! Located in the Chicago River North dining district, Ramen-San indoor outdoor indoor dining atmosphere is awesome.
Checking out the menu, looking at the noodle options and going for what we know and looks familiar, so of course we see CHICKEN (typical black people right?) and decide to try the Kimichi & fried chicken, and the Mantou bun w/chicken. Best decision ever! When we walked in and my husband immediately stated “Man their playlist is hot”, and I replied “really, u hear one song and the playlist is hot? keep listening and see if you’re still saying that after a few songs” Yup, you guessed it, Ramen-San shut me up fast. So, not only was the food great, their playlist during the hour we were there was definitely amazing, 90’s music is always good music.
The Mantou’s are soft, airy Chinese steamed buns that are truly amazing. Placed inside this wonderful bun was a piece of fried chicken, cilantro, napa cabbage, and what I believe is a horse raddish sauce. At $5 each my first thought, was “sweet baby Jesus, $5 for a dinner roll”, so we ordered two, one for me and one for my husband. Once we finished our bun I ordered 2 more. I promise you, ridiculously worth every bit of the $5
And then there is our Kimichi & fried chicken bowl, which consisted of fried garlic, buttered corn, some cabbage, fried chicken pieces and of course noodles. And yes it is lite my butt on fire spicy, yet the flavors can be tasted and are OH SO GOOD! So good I started digging in my husbands bowl. I can take the heat, so I stayed my but in that Ramen-San spice kitchen. lol
Ramen-san abides by three age-old principles:
Noodles make everything better.
Cold beer makes life more fun.
No one gets a room pumped up like Eric B. & Rakim
I encourage you to go eat, drink and be merry!
